Mr. Shaukat (Barrister of Lincoln's Inn) has been enrolled as an advocate since 2002. In an extremely short span of time he has managed to develop a reputation of being creative in the areas of Project Financing, Mergers and Acquisitions, Corporate Restructuring and Swaps & Derivatives. He regularly advises the KSE 100 companies, multinational companies, financial institutions, NBFC's, insurance companies on matters pertaining to company laws, banking and finance, competition laws and income tax.
Mr. Shaukat specialises in settling finance agreements under both conventional and Islamic modes of financing. In the recent past he has been advising the leading banks in Pakistan in structuring their finance and security documents for various power projects. He has also been advising The Hub Power Company Limited, the largest power station to be financed by the private sector in Southern Asia and listed on Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Luxembourg Stock Exchanges, in setting up an expansion facility i.e. power plant of 213 MW at Narowal - Pakistan. He recently negotiated various finance facilities of approximately Rs.25 Billion (from a consortium of local banks) for The Hub Power Company Limited. He is currently advising Lucky Energy (a subsidiary of Lucky Group) in setting up a wind power project of approximately 50MW at Jhimpir.
Mr. Shaukat recently finalised syndicated dual tranche structured finance facilities for Pakistan National Shipping Corporation for a sum of Rs.10.3 Billion for purchase of dry cargo oil tankers. The facility also included issuance of Privately Placed Term Finance Certificates for an amount of Rs.1.3 Billion. He also assisted the client in procuring a cross currency swap with FX-reset for a sum of Rs.10.3Billion under the ISDA Master Agreement.
Mr. Shaukat has successfully advised clients (listed companies) in making substantial acquisitions and takeovers under the Listed Companies (Substantial Acquisition of Voting Shares and Takeover) Ordinance 2002. He recently advised Suroor Investments Limited (a foreign entity) for acquiring majority stake in a local bank in Pakistan.
Mr. Shaukat regularly advises clients on general corporate / commercial documents including software licensing, franchising and distributorship agreements.
Mr. Shaukat is an Advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan and often represents clients before the High Courts and Regulatory Authorities such as the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and Competition Commission of Pakistan. He has several reported judgments which have been published it the law reports of Pakistan.
