By virtue of the fact that the Firm has been acting as the legal counsel for the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, and various entities which have entered the telecommunication sector after the promulgation of the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) Act, 1996, the Firm is recognized as the premier law firm in the telecommunication sector.
The Firm has been engaged by the Government of Pakistan in the drafting of the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) Ordinance, 1995, the subsequent re-promulgation of such Ordinance as the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) Act, 1996, and all subsequent modifications and proposed modifications to the telecommunication regulatory framework.
The Firm has been recently engaged by the
Universal Service Fund for drafting their various standard contracts for Subsidy Agreements for access of telecom and e-services to special persons (with physical, visual and hearing disabilities); appointment of consultants, procurement rules, security documents.
- Representation of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited in the turn-key projects of 500,000 telephone lines throughout Pakistan wherein the Firm negotiated various transaction and concession documents with Alcatel CIT, Siemens, Ericsson and China Telecom.
- Counsel for the Government of Pakistan in the US $ 2.59 billion privatization of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited. The Firm was responsible for advising on Pakistan law issues in the transaction, advising on the regulatory framework, and negotiating all transaction documents with Etisalat, the acquirer.
- Counsel for Oberthur Card Systems with regard to the options of undertaking business activities in the field of providing smart cards and the sale and distribution of chips in Pakistan.
- Counsel for Nortel Networks with regard to all corporate and regulatory matters pertaining to Pakistan law.
- Counsel for Zahra Communications (Private) Ltd in a suit against National Telecommunication Corporation.
- Counsel for Telecard Limited in its constitutional petition against the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and Frequency Allocation Board.
- Counsel for Trakker (Pvt.) Limited which is Pakistan's first multi-national company in Vehicle and Fleet Management Services operating across Pakistan and the Middle East.
