Trade Remedy Actions by Pakistan

Being an active user of trade remedy instruments, Pakistan has, since the year 2002, completed thirty two (32) anti-dumping investigations of which twenty six (26) resulted in imposition of anti-dumping measures. Six investigations were terminated and no measure were imposed. The twenty six (26) measures that have been imposed have brought substantial and significant relief to the affected Pakistani industries by way of anti-dumping duties imposed on specified imports, hence protecting output and employment as well as profits. Another twenty one (21) investigations are in progress. A safeguard investigation was also initiated in 2005 which resulted in no measure. It is worth noting that the bulk of activity in Pakistan in relation to trade remedy matters has been related to anti-dumping. This is in keeping with developments in the rest of the world, and reflects the fact that actionable subsidies are now much fewer than was once the case, and also reflects the tougher benchmarks for obtaining remedies under the Agreement on Safeguards.
